DJ Klangmasseur aka Klaus Kerschhofer Gautier

DJ Klangmasseur turns world music and groove into a journey through four decades unlike anything you have experienced before. His musical taste is as multifaceted as his path leading up to it — from his very first single to founding his own radio station.

DJ Klangmasseur is an Austrian DJ who has lived in Geneva since 2004. It all began in 1980, when Klaus bought his first record at the age of ten — a single by Queen titled "Flash". Back then, he was most fascinated by the jukeboxes ("Wurlitzer") found in many local inns: after inserting a shilling and selecting a track, the mechanism inside automatically placed a single onto the turntable. This sparked his early interest in rock and pop hits, and by age 15, he owned enough records to naturally become the DJ for weekend class parties in private basement rooms. It marked the start of a lifelong passion: being the DJ who gets people moving.

Records were his top priority — constantly searching, constantly collecting. His vinyl collection grew steadily, covering pop, rock, blues, Afro, and 70s jazz-groove from an early age. Rare groove was followed by acid jazz and trip-hop as favorite genres, before techno unexpectedly arrived in the early 90s. Techno parties and after-hours instantly dominated the scene, and DJ Klangmasseur was right in the middle of it: he played as an ambient DJ on the chill-out floors of major techno events — a genre with a limited selection of DJs at the time. In 1998, he worked at the Blackmarket Recordstore, which became the premier record shop in Vienna's DJ scene. There, he met many prominent figures from the local scene, including Kruder & Dorfmeister, who achieved international fame with their downtempo bossa nova remixes for Depeche Mode and Madonna.

As a trusted record dealer, he formed a close connection with Peter Kruder, who supported him by letting him play the warm-up sets for his legendary DJ gigs at Viennese events. This opened many doors: in Vienna, he was known not only as a record seller, but also as a DJ's DJ — highly regarded because he always played the newest releases and rooted his selections in grounded groove and funk, giving his sets a distinctive character.

Although he always kept DJing as a passion project, he had the opportunity to perform at notable venues, including Berlin's legendary Bar 25 and later Kater Holzig.

Musically, Klangmasseur continues to draw inspiration from the Fusion Festival near Berlin, where he volunteers alongside Austrian friends at the Wasserbar. This "Fusion sound" — a blend of Berlin techno and world music, particularly Cumbia and Brasil — has shaped his personal taste over the past decade. His biggest inspirations remain DJs Peter Kruder, former FM4 head of music DJ Makossa, and especially DJ Scheibosan, whom he counts among his closest friends.

With moral and musical backing from DJ Scheibosan and fellow DJ friends, he founded the local radio station Radio Bistoquette in late 2025 — named after the La Bistoquette housing cooperative where he lives. The station launched online on May 2, 2026, broadcasting curated world music and electronic remixes 24/7 ever since. The radio station evolves organically and cooperatively: the editorial shows currently in development (as of September 2026) carry a social, community-driven, and intergenerational focus.

DJ Klangmasseur is also a trained massage therapist — hence the name Klangmasseur — and since 2026 has been passionately working as an activity coordinator for Pro Senectute at a senior day care facility in Geneva. At heart, he remains a caregiver dedicated to helping others feel good, regardless of the setting — including through his music.
